Teaching and Remembering September 11th
Why is it important to build community on a national level? September 11 helps us answer this question and more. It serves as a date to practice coming together as one country and commemorating those affected by the tragic events of the September 11 attacks.
Provide students with an opportunity to learn about 9/11 beyond the historical facts, as they examine the different communities affected and how we remember their legacy while providing a safe space to reflect on the cultural and social significance of the event.
By the end of the lessons, students can:
- Understand and describe some general narratives and practices surrounding September 11th.
- Reflect on the significance of September 11th for communities who celebrate.
